Vivo Xplay 3S crowns itself as the worlds first smartphone with a 2K resolution display

After much teasing and speculation, the worlds first phone with the so-called 2K HD or Quad HD (QHD) screen, was just announced over in Beijing. Just as inferred, the thin handset is called Vivo Xplay 3S, and its 6" display indeed sports that sweet 1440x2560 pixels of resolution, raking in 490ppi pixel density.

It is also sporting a fast Snapdragon 800, in its 8974AB reincarnation, which has four Krait 400 cores that can go up to 2.3 GHz, and Adreno 330 GPU. Qualcomms VP even took to the stage to explain the advantages of having this chipset in the crazy 2K handset.

The phone features the generous 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, stereo speakers, DTS sound, and dual-mode LTE connectivity. Theres a set of top-shelf dedicated audio chips on the Xplay 3S - the ESS Technologys ES9018 DAC and Texas Instruments OPA2604 amplifier - ensuring strong and full sound both from the loudspeakers, and from the DTS headphones included in the box. The 13 MP rear camera is with f/1.8 aperture, and, naturally, does 1080p video, and there is a wide-angle 5 MP shooter at the front for video chat. Not to be outdone, Vivo has also included a fingerprint sensor on the back of the Xplay 3S.

Vivo boasts that the handset is just 4.5mm at its thinnest part, which is likely where the tapered back meets the edges. If you are worried about the battery capacity, it is pegged at 3200 mAh, but well save the endurance judgment for after we see some real-life tests with the Quad HD display on for a few hours. As for price, it is listed to cost 3498 yuans on preorder, which is about $580 without a contract, with availability reportedly scheduled for next month, and global rollout plans in the making.PhoneArena
