Apple launches 8GB iPhone 5c in India

Tags: Apple , iOS

You all know the iPhone 5c – it was supposed to become the long awaited cheap iPhone that will help Apple expand its reach and strengthen its presence in developing markets. Except that it wasn’t particularly cheap, which kinda ruined the whole deal.

As previously expected, in an attempt to fix that Apple has now launched a new 8GB version of the iPhone 5c in India. It costs INR37,500, which translates to €470 or $640, which is INR4,000 (€50/$68) lower than the 16GB version of the “unapologetically plastic” smartphone.

That’s hardly the definition of cheap and once can certainly wonder whether spending that much money on a phone with storage so limited is a smart movie. Yet those that don’t have a big multimedia library or play too many games might see things otherwise.

It’s also worth pointing out that there are several promotions going on that let Indian customers save INR4,000 on the 16GB iPhone 5c, so if the 8GB version receives the same treatment it might drop to slightly more sensible levels. Still, even if that happens the 8GB iPhone 5c will cost as much as the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo or an LG G2 – that’s certainly not going to be an easy sell for Apple.

First HTC M8 Ace render leaks as the company teases curvy design

Tags: HTC , Android , Rumors

Following a blurry photo of the HTC (M8) Aces front, a render of the phones back panel is now upon us. Thanks to the Chinese news outlet ifanr, we can catch a glimpse of what rumors suggest is a plastic variant of the One (M8).

Made entirely out of polycarbonate in order to reduce manufacturing costs and better compete with the Samsung Galaxy S5, the phone seemingly lacks its premium brothers dual-camera setup. The layout, however, is quite similar, but instead of the One (M8)s 4MP sensor, theres a LED flash. Were yet to see if below it, HTC will fit an UltraPixel sensor or a regular 8MP or 13MP camera.

Meanwhile, HTC teased that "more beautiful curves are coming soon." Citing a quote by English novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the company teases a phone that would feature curves in its design.

Further information on the HTC (M8) Ace is scarce, but some rumors suggest it will have a 5" 1080p display and Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC with 2.5GHz quad-core CPU. Most importantly, the launch price of the smartphone is said to be CN¥3,000 (around $480). This means that the M8 Ace will be quite a lot cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S5 when available, placing it in a more competitive stance./p>

Apple iPhone 6 dummy pictured and measured

Tags: Apple , iOS , Rumors

Another day, another iPhone 6 leak. iphone-store.ro contacted us with info on the upcoming Apple iPhone 6, including photos of a dummy and measurements made with a digital sliding gauge. This should finally settle the dispute about the size of the new Apple flagship.

The pictures also confirm the 4.7" screen, which will reportedly have a resolution of 960 x 1,704 (thats exactly 50% more pixels both horizontally and vertically than the current 4" iPhone 5s screen). This year Apple will use three suppliers – JDI and LG Display, plus Innolux.

Anyway, the Apple iPhone 6 dummy had the following dimensions – 137.5 x 67 x 7mm. For reference, the iPhone 5s is 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm.

The photos also give us the full tour of the iPhone 6 exterior, which features the iPod touch like design now familiar from the torrent of leaks. Its the White with Gold home key color option, though weve seen Grey, Black and Gold dummies too.

Finally, here are three comparison shots between the Apple iPhone 6 and the current iPhone 5s. In case you missed it, the new iPhone is supposed to be water resistant.

An employee of the Romanian Apple customer service reportedly claimed their team was told not to take any leave in September, presumably in anticipation of the launch. The launch itself might happen the month before.

Thanks to the iphone-store.ro team for sending us the photos!

Again BlackBerry Dominate The U S Smartphone Market

Apple has just launched its latest product the iPhone 4, and scored 1.7 million unit sales in the first three days. Google also announced that about 160 thousand have been using OS Android phone every day. However, this fact apparently has not been able to shift the position of RIM in the smartphone market country of Uncle Sam.

Based on the survey research company Nielsen Co..,  RIM Blackberry  still becomes a market leader in the United States, with the acquisition of approximately 35%. The iPhone competitor reached 28%, and Android share reached only 9%.

When compared with what is achieved by RIM five years ago, that number turned out to show a sharp decline. RIM is because at that time able to lead the market with a market share of more than 50%.

Research and consulting company of information technology: Gartner Inc., in the year 2012 even predict Android will be pushed into second position, under the Symbian smartphone market worldwide. Then would follow the iPhone in 3rd position. As for RIM which currently occupies two positions will be dropped into fourth position.

This gives a sign, if the competition in the smartphone market has increased. And now the pressure is on the side RIM

Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime SM G906 pops up in import docs

Tags: Samsung , Android , Rumors

Import manifest reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (with a model number SM-G906) has arrived in Delhi Airport, India. The phone is coming from South Korea and is marked for testing and evaluation purposes.

In the import document, the Galaxy S5 Prime is given a price of $360 (INR 21,245). Previous import document, which was regarding the Motorola Moto E pointed at a $137 price tag, which wasnt very far off from its actual retail ($129). In the case of the Galaxy S5 Prime, however, we feel this wont be the case.

Another interesting thing to note is that the Galaxy S5 Prime sports a 5.1" display, not a 5.2" as previously suggested. The alleged specifications of the Galaxy S5 Prime include QHD-resolution display, 2.5Hz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with a quad-core CPU, an Adreno 420 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Further rumors claim the phone would be capable of reaching 225Mbps download speeds.

Additionally, purported leaked images also claim to show the Galaxy S5 Prime in the flesh. Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime is tipped to debut next month, but it probably wont come at the tablet-dedicated June 12 event. The price tag at launch is supposed to be around $880.

Nokia X X and XL will not be updated to  X Platform 2 0

Tags: Nokia , Android

Microsoft is going to get a reputation if it keeps doing this – the new Nokia X2 brings a new version of the X platform (2.0) and with it the announcement that the current devices (X, X+ and XL) will not be updated. The same thing happened during the transition from Windows Phone 7.x to 8.0.

Nokia X Platform 2.0 is based on Android API 19 (which corresponds to 4.3 Jelly Bean) and brings a number of changes to the UI. First, there are four tiles per line of the homescreen (up from three) and you can move tiles around and resize them.

The homescreen grew an additional pane – the tiles and Fastlane panes are joined by an app list, just like the one WP has. And as youve probably already noticed, the lonely Back button now has a Home button friend, "for simpler navigation" (why remove it in the first place?). Additional changes include improvements to the camera UI, Fastlane and the virtual keyboard.

It doesn’t sound like Nokia X / X+ / XL owners are missing out on much – yet! – but the X+ and XL only came to the stores last month and are already obsolete.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months,” says Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.

What hardware requirements isnt specified. The Nokia X2 comes with more RAM than its predecessors (1GB vs. 512MB / 768MB) and better CPU cores (Cortex-A7 vs. A5), but thats about it. And the Home button, of course.

The screen of smart phone becomes bigger and bigger, it improves user experience a lot. While nothing is perfect. The main problem caused by large screen is short battery. Lenovo K920 coming soon with QHD screen Snapdragon 801

Tags: Lenovo , Android , Dual SIM

It looks like the Lenovo Vibe Z from last year is due to get a follow-up pretty soon. Thats because a Lenovo K920 has been spotted at China Mobiles booth at Mobile Asia Expo.

And since the Vibe Z bears the model number K910, the purpose of the new device becomes instantly clear.

The Lenovo K920 features a unibody design that looks metallic but probably isnt. In terms of specs it will be a beast, coming with a 6-inch 2560x1440 pixel touchscreen, which in fact is Lenovos first to have such a high resolution. A 16MP camera is on the rear and a 5MP unit is there for selfies.

The phone will be powered by Qualcomms quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset, with a CPU clocked at 2.5 GHz, and will sport 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage is set at 32GB, and you can expect Android 4.4 KitKat to be on board.

The K920 has support for China Mobiles TD-LTE, complete with dual-SIM functionality. Whether there will ever be a version of the smartphone for other parts of the world is unclear at this point, as is when it will be released in China (or even officially announced).

Custom ROM community brings KitKat to the Galaxy S3

Tags: Samsung , Android

Samsung announced that they wouldn’t be bringing Android KitKat to their aging Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, but that didn’t stop the XDA and Android hacking community from porting it over anyway. As long as you don’t have an issue with rooting your device and following the instructions on the forum (posted in the source link below), then you’ll be able to enjoy KitKat on your S3.

However, as with most custom ROMs, the KitKat ROM for the S3 isn’t perfect. There are still some stability and usability issues, and not all features of the phone may function properly. Users may experience some glitches as well. However, if nearly all previous custom ROMs are any indication, the KitKat S3 ROM will get better with time as the community continues to work out the kinks.

The community should be a large one as well, considering that the Galaxy S3 is an extremely popular handset and its user base was livid when they discovered that Samsung wouldn’t be porting over Google’s latest iteration of its mobile OS to their beloved device.

It’s interesting to note that the KitKat ROM file is too large to fit onto the Galaxy S3’s internal storage; Samsung’s pre-loaded bloatware is primarily to blame. Once it was removed, the hackers were able to successfully port it without any storage space issues.

Samsung originally cited memory issues as to why the S3 wasn’t getting a KitKat port, but many saw that as a way of the Korean manufacturer phasing out their older product line in the hopes that consumers will opt for the companys newer offerings.
