LG G Watch gets pictured again in the wild

Tags: LG , Android

Ready or not, heres another sighting of LGs G Watch. The soon to be released smartwatch based on Googles new Android Wear platform has been spotted out and about once more, this time as it lies flat on a wooden surface with a charging cable (that looks like its microUSB) connected to it.

Its got a rubber band in this incarnation, as you can see.

The watch is asking its owner to install the Android Wear app on her or his smartphone first, so it looks like that will be a requirement for using Android Wear devices.

The G Watch is expected to become fully official next week during Googles I/O developer conference. The wearable will apparently be sold through Googles Play Store, its been recently revealed.

It should be out in Europe this month, and elsewhere on July 1. It will be priced at €199 in Europe, and presumably $199 in the US.

The smartwatch has been rumored to sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset, a 1.65-inch touchscreen with 280x280 resolution, 4GB of built-in storage, 512MB of RAM, and a 400 mAh battery. It will be water and dust resistant. Its dimensions are 37.9 x 46.5 x 9.95 mm.

Its main competitors are likely to be the already released Samsung Gear 2 line as well as the upcoming Moto 360 by Motorola.

First Samsung Tizen smartphone to debut in Russia this May

Tags: Samsung , Tizen , Rumors

Tizen is alive, but unfortunately delayed yet again. However, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel for the joint Intel-Samsung developed OS, as according to a TizenIndonesia, Tizen is going to get its smartphone debut some time in May.

The first official smartphone running Tizen would launch in Russia next month, with Brazil and other developing markets coming next. Additionally, Yoon Han-kil, senior vice president of Samsungs product strategy team said to Reuters that at least two smartphones running Tizen are just around the corner. The first would be a high-end model, not unlike the Samsung Galaxy S4, while the second would be a mid-range model.

However, Yoon says that we should expect both products around the end of the second quarter. So, while Samsung may announce the Tizen smartphones in May, chances are they wont launch until June.

There have been a bunch live photos of Tizen smartphones - the latest being the Samsung SM-Z9005. Its set to feature dual-core Krait processor, 1GB of RAM, a 720p display and LTE connectivity. Its unclear if this is the final hardware, but Samsung has reportedly shipped Z9005 units to developers. We even saw a hands-on video of the device a while ago.

If indeed Samsung manages to keep its own promises, then we should get an official Tizen smartphone available for purchase not too long from now.

Another alleged Apple iPhone 6 dummy unit makes the rounds

Tags: Apple , iOS , Rumors

Yet another alleged Apple iPhone 6 dummy unit made the rounds online. The mockup is of much higher quality than the one we saw earlier today, thus potentially giving us a better look of the upcoming smartphone.

height=250/

Alleged iPhone 6 mockup (click to enlarge)

The latest dummy unit is tipped to be the creation of a case manufacturer and falls right in line with past leaks. It showcases the power/lock and volume buttons on the side of the handset, as well as its already leaked, slightly protruding camera unit with LED flash.

There is no word on the screen size of the handset in the photo. Judging by its proportions however, we reckon that we are looking at the rumored 4.7” iPhone. A number of reports suggest that Apple will launch a duo of large-screen iPhone devices – one with 4.7” screen and one with 5.5” unit.

We don’t know when the iPhone 6 will go official just yet. The usual September time frame is likely.

Plastic HTC One M8 Ace leaks again in promo images

Tags: HTC , Android , Rumors

More images of the HTC One M8 Ace have found their way on the net before the official unveiling of the phone on June 3. These appear to be official promo images that tout the key features of the new phone.

First off, its similar to the HTC Butterfly S. The HTC One M8 Ace has a plastic unibody instead of a metal one and moves some things around. The biggest change is that the dual camera setup has been dropped in favor of a single 13MP camera with single-LED flash on the back and a 5MP front-facing shooter, the same combo as on the Desire 816 and One mini 2.

height=100/ height=100/ height=100/ height=100/

Leaked promo images of the HTC One M8 Ace

The power key appears different from the vanilla HTC One (M8), but the One M8 Ace still supports double tap to wake, so you wont have to reach for it that often. And its a reach across the 5" screen and two front-facing speakers.

The HTC One M8 Ace has a faster version of the Snapdragon 801, the one with 2.5GHz CPU clock speed. The promo images also seem to boast about efficient power usage with the Extreme Power Saving mode.

height=100/ height=100/ height=100/ height=100/

More promo images

Theres also an image of a very odd box, though considering the size it looks more like a promo thing than the actual retails box. If those are bubbles, this would make the phone water-resistant like the Butterfly S was.

The HTC One M8 Ace will be available in four colors – White, Black, Red and Blue – for a reported price of RMB 3,000 ($480), which matches up what weve heard before.

Blu Prestigio and Yezz showcase Windows Phone handsets

Tags: Microsoft , Windows Phone , Blu , Yezz , Prestigio

The Computex Expo in Taiwan kicked off yesterday and is bringing many new devices in the spotlight. Microsoft, is using the scene to present several new Windows Phone smartphones, and surprisingly or not none of them is coming from Nokia.

The first three new Windows Phone gadgets are coming from companys latest OEM partners, added to the official list of manufacturers after Microsoft made Windows free for devices under 9".

Microsoft Corporate VP of OEM Division showcased two new Blu devices today running on Windows Phone 8.1. The one pictured below is a 5" smartphone that will come in many different colors.

The other one is most likely the one was teased via Blus Facebook page a while ago. There are no more details shared on those gadgets, but we expect an official announcement from Blu any moment now.

Blus smaller WP handset

Prestigio is also joining the Windows Phone lineup with the MultiPhone 8500 DUO and MultiPhone 8400 DUO. Both smartphones are running on Windows Phone 8.1, come with dual-SIM capabilities and are powered by Snapdragon 400 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU.

The MultiPhone 8500 DUO comes with a 5" 720p display, 1GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera with 1080p recording and a 2MP front snapper. It will launch in July at €170.

MultiPhone 8500 DUO • MultiPhone 8400 DUO

Prestigio MultiPhone 8400 DUO packs a 4" IPS WVGA display and has an 8MP rear cam plus a VGA front camera for video chats. It will hit the EU shelves in August and will cost €85.

The Yezzs Billy, named after Bill Gates, has been around for a while. It boasts a 4.7" IPS 720p display, runs on a quad-core processor and comes with a 13MP rear camera. It should become available any moment now for €229. Yezz is also outing a smaller 4" version of the Billy with 8MP cam for €129.

Those arent the only OEMs Microsoft has recently partnered with. InFocus will be showcasing its first Windows Phone device this year too, while design manufacturers such as BYD, Compal, Pegatron, Quanta and Wistron brought on Computex various design prototypes and we should be seeing them implemented in real devices in a few months.

Samsung Galaxy S5 mini support page spotted on official site

Tags: Samsung , Android , Rumors

The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has been rumored for a long time and we’ve encountered its SM-G800 model number a few times. This time it’s right on Samsung’s official web site (the Finnish portal in particular).

Unfortunately, the web page appears to be just a placeholder at the moment with no additional info. The Galaxy S5 mini is rumored to come with a 4.5” 720p screen, Snapdragon 400 chipset and an 8MP camera.

The Galaxy S5 mini will be water-resistant with an IP67 rating, just like its bigger sibling.

There’s also an SM-G750 in the works, currently known under the Galaxy S5 Neo moniker. This one seems to be a higher end model - a 5.1” 720p phone with a 2.3GHz CPU - despite the lower model number.

Sony announces the Xperia ZL2 in Japan

Tags: Sony , Android

The Sony Xperia ZL2 is now official in Japan. This is the second generation of the phone and just like the first one, its a non-water-resistant version of the current flagship with much slimmer bezels and smaller footprint.

The phone carries the 5" 1080p display from the original ZL complete with the Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and X-Reality engine.

Under the hood, theres a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM. Internal storage is 32GB and a microSD card slot completes it with support of up to 128GB additional storage. The ZL2 runs Anrdoid 4.4 KitKat with Sonys Xperia UI on top.

Surprisingly, the Sony Xperia ZL2 is a bit larger than its predecessor. Measuring 137 x 72 x 10.8mm (compared to 131.6 x 69.3 x 9.8 mm of the Xperia ZL). The smartphone is also 16 g heavier, tipping the scales at 167 g.

At the back of the Xperia ZL2 we find the same 20.7MP shooter as in the Xperia Z2. Its capable of recording 4K video (3,840 x 2,160) and still of up to 5,248 x 3,936 pixel resolution. The battery is a 3000mAh Li-Ion non-user-removable unit.

The connectivity front is chock-full with options such as the latest Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC.

Check out the promo video Sony has put up for the Xperia ZL2 below.

The Xperia ZL2 is available in the standard black and white colors as well as a turquoise one, if you want to stand up from the crowd. The phone will soon launch in Japan, and we presume a wolrdwide premiere isnt too far away.

Exclusive Samsung Galaxy Note 4 display detailed

Tags: Samsung , Android , Rumors

Weve been contacted by our source once again, who sent us a table detailing the upcoming Samsung phones and tablets. This time it includes a new device – the N910 T (Muscat), better known as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

The expected model number for the next Note is N910x, with the last digit separating sub-versions of the device. Typically 0 is for an Exynos device, 5 for a Snapdragon-powered one, 6 for LTE and 2 for dual-SIM. Weve listed the Note 4 and other members of the premium Galaxy family in the table below.

Anyway, this information confirms the Galaxy Note 4 will have a screen with QHD resolution (1,440 x 2,560), but surprisingly the screen diagonal is 5.7", same as it on the current Galaxy Note 3.

So far Notes have grown by 0.2" each generation, starting with the original Galaxy Note at 5.3", then the sequel at 5.5" and the current model at 5.7". By that reasoning we expected the Galaxy Note 4 to have a 5.9" screen.

Weve seen patent drawings for a device with a three-sided YOUM display, so the screen might be larger than the conventional measurement of screen diagonal suggests.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to be water-resistant, powered by either an Exynos Hexa or a Snapdragon 801 chipset and pack a 20.1MP camera.

Special thanks to our tipster, greatnessmakesyougreat!

Huawei schedules a press even for June 24 to unveil Honor 6

Tags: Huawei , Android

Huawei announced its octa-core Kirin 920 chipset four days ago. It is the companys latest top-notch piece of technology and will naturally premiere on the next Huawei flagship. We are yet to see which that device is, but just a day before the chipset went official we saw two new Huawei devices leak - the Kirin 920-based codenamed Mulan device and a new Honor smartphone.

Now an official invitation suggests that the Kirin 920 will premiere on Huawei Honor 6. Huawei has scheduled a press even on June 24 in Beijing. If we are to trust the teaser, Huawei will be skipping Honor 4 and 5 and jump straight on Honor 6, whatever the reason. There are no additional details though, well know more on June 24.

In case youve missed the previous news, here is how the new Honor 6 should look like:

The Honor 6 should be packing a 5" 1080p display, but theres little else we know about it.

iPhone 6 dummy compared to iPhone 5s Galaxy S5

Tags: Apple , iOS , Rumors

We’ve seen a couple of alleged iPhone 6 dummies but this one is the most complete yet. Better still, the photos show it next to the current iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy S5.

If this dummy is the real deal, the new iPhone 6 will bring more than just a new design - it’s clearly wider than the old model and thinner too. Put up against the Galaxy S5 it’s only a little shorter, pointing to a 4.7” display.

height=150/ height=150/ height=150/ height=150/

Alleged iPhone 6 dummy compared to Galaxy S5

Using the iPhone 5s and Galaxy S5 in the photos for reference, the iPhone 6 should measure 135.3 x 71.9 x 6.1mm. For comparison, the current iPhone 5s is 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm and the Galaxy S5 is 142 x 72.5 x 8.1mm.

height=150/ height=150/ height=150/ height=150/

iPhone 6 dummy next to iPhone 5s

Anyway, the iPhone 6 dummy shows the screen (possibly behind a sapphire) and a 5s-like home button below. Strangely, a sole power button is located on the right, not top side as usual. The mute and volume keys are on the left. The back holds the camera, a round flash (not dual-tone?) and a mic between them.

height=150/ height=150/

Two more shots of the iPhone 6 dummy

The iPhone 6 could finally see Apple jumping aboard the large screen bandwagon with a new design language to boot. The dummy doesn’t answer other questions like screen resolution (640 x 1136 won’t cut it at this size) and what about the camera?

LG made Nexus 6 probably wont happen

Tags: Android , LG , Google

If theres ever going to be a Nexus 6, it wont be made by LG. At least thats what one exec from the Korean company seems to think.

A Dutch publication has quoted Ken Hong, an LG communications director, as saying that he doesnt know anything about an LG Nexus 6 yet.

Given past release time frames, if the new Nexus is to arrive this fall (like both of its LG-made predecessors), then Hong should have been told about it by now.

Of course, theres also a chance that, for whatever reason, he wasnt kept in the loop by his superiors this time around and LG actually is working on a Nexus 6.

Things get a bit more complicated, though, when you factor in recent rumors that spoke about the Nexus programme being discontinued in favor of a broader Silver effort from Google. This would comprise of more devices per year (not just one as with the Nexus line), presumably from more than one manufacturer too.

At one point in the past LG was said to be making the first such Android Silver handset, though this was referred to as being the successor to the Nexus 6.

So will there be a Nexus 6? Its really tough to tell. Though if it will happen, its probably not going to be made by LG. On the other hand, the Korean company may be working with Google on a Silver smartphone, one which could debut next year.

Oppo R1S outed with LTE and faster chipset

Tags: Oppo , Android

Oppo has announced Oppo R1S - an upgraded version of the recently launched Oppo R1 with a faster chipset and a better camera.

height=160/ height=160/ height=160/

Oppo R1S

The Oppo R1S looks absolutely identical to its R1 predecessor, it even has the same footprint and weight. The 5" 720p IPS display also remains intact, but the chipset has been upgraded.

The Oppo R1 runs on MediaTeks MT6582 chipset with a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 processor and Mali-400MP2 GPU, while the newly introduced Oppo R1S is powered by the Qualcomms Snapdragon 400 with a quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A7 CPU and faster Adreno 305 GPU. The RAM stays the same at 1GB.

Due to the new chipset the Oppo R1S is LTE-capable, but it drops the dual-SIM support. Oppo R1S offers a more capable camera than its predecessor - it features a 13MP sensor instead of 8MP. Its extra features stay the same though - HDR stills, panorama shots, 1080p video recording.

Oppo R1S runs on Oppos Color OS based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. It will become available on pre-order for €290 (CNY 2,498) starting tomorrow. You will be able to choose between white and blue flavors.

Apple iPhone 6 leaked by Taiwanese star Jimmy Lin

Tags: Apple , iOS

Taiwanese singer/actor/race driver Jimmy Lin posted photos of himself holding the yet-unannounced iPhone 5c last year and now hes back with the new iPhone 6. Weve seen plenty of leaks of the iPod Touch-inspired iPhone, but given Mr. Lins track record these images are some of the more credible ones.

Lin confirms the 4.7" screen for the Apple iPhone 6 and notes that the antennas are still external. The new rounded corners improve the grip but the matte aluminum finish may be slippery.

height=200/ height=200/ height=200/

Jimmy Lin holding up the Apple iPhone 6

To compensate for the taller device, the Power key has been moved on the right side. Also, it seems that Apple will be abandoning its dual-LED flash.

Unfortunately, there are no technical details about the phone so we still dont know the resolution of the 4.7" screen.

According to info from Foxconn there will be a 5.5" iPhone too.

LG G Flex 2 could be arriving Q1 2015

Tags: LG , Android , Rumors

EVleaks is on the case again and this time the tech spies have got some info on the upcoming LG G Flex 2. The phone will supposedly be released halfway through Q1 2015 and it should be coming with an improved self-healing plastic case.

It does seem like a long lead time out for EVleaks to release info on this smartphone, however, this news, coupled with the news of Google’s upcoming Android Silver program, gives us all a little more to discuss than just a potential release date.

The G Flex 2 could be the first of the upcoming line of Android Silver handsets. Remember the Nexus 6? The 6” phablet that was supposed to be released but ended up getting cut short? Well Android Silver could very well be the Nexus 6, as it does have a 6” screen. The purported Android handset will also be sporting a octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset.

In order for the LG G Flex 2 to be more successful than the original model is its display resolution: it cannot be capped at 720p. Most of its competition flaunt high res screens, and apparently LG has been working on improving the resolution of their flexible displays.

As of now, these are only rumors, but they do lead us to believe that the Flex 2 will be an interesting handset.

OnePlus One to go on sale ahead of schedule

Tags: OnePlus , Android

Good news for fans of the OnePlus One, as the company has announced that it will be selling the phone ahead of their previous schedule. The phone will now be available some time by the end of this month instead of in June.

OnePlus has also listened to feedback from people since the announcement and has learnt that people are far more interested in the 64GB model instead of the 16GB one. This has resulted in the 64GB model production being prioritized and the 16GB being pushed back.

The 64GB will be available by the end of this month although supplies are likely to be short. The phone should be more readily available by June.

Apple has initiated the iPhone 5 sleep/wake button replacement program for those with a malfunctioning button. Under this program, if you have an eligible iPhone 5, Apple will replace the button free of cost.

Apple has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently. iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue.

Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number.

Apple has setup a website where you can check if your iPhone 5 is eligible for a replacement. Not all iPhone 5 phones have this issue but if you think yours does then this is the time to get it fixed.
